Reflect back before proposing when a team rejects your first suggestion

When: You made a suggestion and the team pushed back. You feel the urge to offer a better one straight away.

The action: Hold the next idea. Play back what you heard about why the first one didn't fit, and check you have it right.

Forces: Offering a quick alternative looks responsive and expert. It also tells the team you weren't listening to the objection. Reflecting back costs a few minutes and some status.

Signals: The team corrects or adds to your playback. Your next suggestion is accepted, or the team proposes one themselves.

When not to: They rejected it for a clear, stated reason that you understood. Reflecting back then reads as stalling or as a technique being run on them.
